Personal Introduction

Hi my name is Evans Otchere. I’m a 4th year psychology student who recently joined the photography club at the University of Guelph and am excited to learn all that I can about photography. I have always been interested with pictures and cameras and by doing this blog I hope to not only educate myself but educate all those who view my page. Eventually I want to start up my own Magazine and include various photos of the latest fashion trends. I’m learning all that I can about Cameras and how to take good photos since photography has always been an interest of mine. I hope that you enjoy reading my blog and learn about photography and cameras.

Evolution of Cameras and Photography

Photography has come a long way over the years. From using a Polaroid Camera to using some of the most expensive digital cameras like the Hasselbad H4D-60 priced at $41,995, the evolution of cameras and photography is amazing! The progression of how cameras have evolved over time has been well documented.

The word Photography comes from two Greek words “photos” which mean light and “graphein” which means to draw. Photographs are made through light or radiant energy recording a picture of an object or scene on a light-sensitive surface

The Beginning of Photography

  •  The first permanent photograph image was produced by Joseph Nicéphore Niépce who was a French inventor.
  • He placed a metal plate in a box and was successfully able to capture light
  • He named his discovery the Heliograph
  • His fellow Frenchman, Louis Daguerre was experimenting with ways to capture an image.
  • In 1829, Joseph and Louis teamed up to improve the process Joseph first developed.

Fast Forwarding to Today’s Era

Photographs now are so important. We use them everywhere from uploading pictures to our facebook account to using them in books, magazines, newspapers and even television. Photography is slowly becoming an extremely powerful tool when it comes to communication and visually expressing one’s self.  New photographs are taken every day and FlickR and Instagram are becoming well-known platforms in which people choose to express themselves through pictures. A phone now plays a major role when it comes to sharing photos with friends or family! There also continues to be amazing new software that allows users to easily upload and edit photos!

Digital Photography

– Photography now has become so essential for businesses such as real estate,  several commercials and advertisements, and the tourism industry, etc. It has become a key marketing tool that can help with consumer purchase but with digital photography everybody has become somewhat of a professional.

– Many pictures taken now are high quality despite who is taken them because of advanced technology, Digital Photography. It has changed how we modify, collect and store photos!

– Digital Photography became so popular that it drove companies like Kodak into bankruptcy. Companies such as Fuji and Agfa were affected too. Basically if you were a company that still sold film or offered photofinishing products, it was time to re-evaluate your business strategy!

Future of Photography

To be honest, who knows what’s next? I haven’t ruled anything out! The sky is truly the limit when it comes to what we can expect from the future. So much has changed from when Joseph Nicéphore Niépce made the first photo. I predict technology allowing the average individuals to become more professional when taking photos. In the near future I see no need for professional photographers etc because everybody will be capable of taking top-notch photos, but that’s only my prediction!
